Please follow the steps below to complete your picture book submission.
Picture Book Services Picture Book Order Form
1. Complete your manuscript: Please submit your entire interior text as a single file in common word processor file types like Microsoft Word™, or Publisher. If you have a different word processor or file format, or a Macintosh computer, please email us.
2. Write your cover copy: Please supply a word document with the text for the front and back cover of your book. This file should be separate from your manuscript and include all text (maximum 300 words) you would like to appear on the cover, including your author biography and book summary. You may also include reviews of your book - just make sure the total word count doesn't exceed 300.
3. Prepare your images: Kennedy Publishing Services requires submitting digital files instead of hard copy. Kennedy Publishing Services requires images saved at least 300 dpi to 800 dpi JPG, TIFF or PNG files at 100% of the physical size of the approximate intended use. (See book dimensions) If you prefer to submit using a different file format or have any questions about submitting digital images, please email us.
Special note: Kennedy Publishing Services does not recommend inserting text into images because of possible quality issues that may arise. The print quality can only be as good as your submitted images. Please send the highest quality images you can.
4. Include image placement notes: Please indicate directly in your manuscript where the images should go, or rather, which images go with what text. Simply listing the name of the images is sufficient enough. (Example: text text text [insert image1 here] text text text [insert image2 here] text text text, etc.)
5. Create an image inventory: In order to facilitate the processing of images, Kennedy Publishing Services requests that you supply a numbered list of all the images you intend to use. Digital images should be named accordingly. (Example: image1, image2, image3…)
6. Prepare a storyboard or a mock-up: Kennedy Publishing Services would like to see your design ideas. You may provide us with a storyboard and examples so that we know what sort of design you have in mind. This will also help us determine which service best suits your book. Please note that if your suggested design exceeds the standard design capabilities we will contact you upon receipt of your submission to discuss your options.
7. Fill out the order form: You may complete the order form and mail it to Kennedy Publishing Services by itself or with the rest of your submission materials.
8. Email us to review: When you have completed the order form, email us. Our Publishing consultants will answer any last minute questions, as well as review your submission with you to ensure that you have all materials ready.
9. Now you are ready to submit: Make sure that you package and label everything carefully and include the appropriate payment. For your digital files, Kennedy Publishing Services accepts many different media formats, including floppy disk, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, and Zip disk. Kennedy Publishing Services recommends that you use a traceable mail service (UPS, FedEx, certified mail, etc.) to insure that your package arrives at our office safely. Do not send oversized, irreplaceable, valuable, perishable or fragile materials, as we cannot be held responsible for items lost in the mail, or damaged in transit or with normal handling.
